I didn’t renew my SDFC season tickets this year.
Not because I stopped caring—because I cared too much to watch the front office let Iloski walk over contract terms while paying $7.6M for a player who got benched in the playoffs.
Iloski scored a goal every 47 minutes for us. Philly got him for $1.15M. Meanwhile, we had locker room drama and a star who couldn’t hold a starting spot when it mattered most.
Tonight SDFC is making their Concachampions debut. Pumas is up 1-0. The stadium is half empty.
Being right doesn’t feel as good as I thought it would.
I wanted this to work. San Diego had a historic expansion season. Western Conference finalists. But talent decisions matter—and ignoring the people closest to the work (fans who watch every game, see the patterns) has consequences.
Still on my bike trainer watching though. Some things you can’t quit.
