A good day to follow the football. Mexico took Chequia three to nothing and finished the group with all three matches won, which I cannot remember them ever managing before. It bodes well. Elsewhere the day ran less kindly: South Africa edged Korea one to nil, and though I hope the Koreans still go through, it is no longer in their own hands, which is a hard way to wait. Switzerland saw off the hosts in Canada, Bosnia handled Qatar, and Brazil put three past Scotland; there is a party after all, and it is in Rio without them. The match of the day was Morocco and Haiti. Morocco were the favorites and won four to two, but Haiti led twice and made them work for it before the second half came apart. No one expected that much fight from them. Worth remembering.
