Most of the day went to errands, the ordinary maintenance of a life, and I will not pretend it was more than that. The exception was the tree stump. I bought a mattock for it and set to work; the ground gave more than it did to the shovel, but less than I had hoped, and the stump is still there. It will come out eventually. Some things yield only to patience and repeated blows, and I have decided to have both. In the evening I made ceviche, this time from a Mexican recipe that cures the shrimp raw. A fair reward for a day spent mostly in service to the list.
