Today was fun. I was able to roll out an idea I had for career development. Those discussions are always hard to navigate. It’s hard to tell people when they’re not meeting expectations, or when I think they’re doing great but I can’t promise them a title or more money. However, I think this was still fun because I was able to align how I view some employees with how they view themselves, and I was able to confirm they’re happy where they are. Seeing people be happy and progress in their careers is very satisfying and by far my favorite part of my new job.

Another highlight of today was joining the initial town hall with the law firm that is suing the city of San Diego on my behalf. It was reassuring that they are professionals and they have concerns for my community. I know the process will take a long time, but I’m glad it’s finally underway. I was skeptical of joining a lawsuit because ultimately I just have to pay it back in higher taxes, but the city should be held liable for their negligence if we want to stop similar situations from happening again.

That’s it for today. I’m off to work on Fiber Club security certificates.
