The heat has settled over San Diego like it means to stay, a record for this stretch of September, and the day became less a matter of doing than of enduring. Little got done that the temperature did not dictate. Across the city the talk has turned, almost as one, to SDGE and the price of keeping the lights and the air moving; it seems everyone is running the same quiet arithmetic against the same bill. For now the work is simply to outlast the weather and wait for it to break.
